Counselling and Psychotherapy in Bristol

Experienced counsellor working in Bishopston

I am a qualified, accredited counsellor with over 20 years counselling experience.

I can work with you so long as you are over 18.

Counselling can help you to change and to manage and overcome difficult and overwhelming feelings and personal life crisis.

Often people come to me because they are anxious, depressed, or lacking self esteem. Counselling offers a space that is just for you where I will listen and use my experience and knowledge to help you to find ways to manage your feelings and relationships more healthily.

I am based in Bishopston which is in North Bristol, and on several bus routes from the City Centre and also from Filton and North Bristol. There is always parking either on my drive or on the road.

As well as the things I have mentioned above I see people with some of the following issues :

-Difficulties with relationships, abuse as a child, parenting, work related stress, bullying
-Mood swings, including bi-polar disorder
-Self confidence, social anxiety, phobias and compulsive obsessive behaviour.
-Grief both in the present and past experiences of loss.
-Difficulties in coping with different life stages for example children leaving home, elderly parents, divorce, difficulty in having children.

In addition to the above I also have specific experience in the following areas:

Life threatening illness:

Being diagnosed with a life threatening illness can be devastating. Feeelings of panic, terror and depression are quite usual and it can help to talk through these and to process what is happening to you. I have experience of working at Penny Brohn Cancer Care, which offers complementary support to people with a diagnosis of cancer, their friends and family and I also have experience of working with people with other life threatening illness.

If you are a family member or friend of someone who has been diagnosed with a life threatening illness counselling can be helpful for you too.

I am an experienced addictions counsellor both alcohol and drugs and also difficulties around food.

I use a combination of CBT and counselling to work with addiction.

Having a family member or friend who is addicted to alcohol or drugs brings a maelstrom of feelings having a space that is just for you can be particularly helpful if you are in this situation.
